Use the meter from your phone
No PC handy, or the meter sits by a door on a USB charger? You can set its level from your phone. This needs no app on your PC and no account: your phone talks straight to the meter.
Which level is which #
The meter's levels are saved on the meter itself as numbered presets. Whatever you use on your phone, pick the preset by its name or number:
| Preset | Level | Stars |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Free | None (only the light along the bottom) |
| 2 | Away | 1 |
| 3 | Focus | 2 |
| 4 | On a call | 3 |
| 5 | In a meeting | 4 |
| 6 | Presenting | 5 |
| 7 | Do not disturb | 6 |
| 8 | Flash | All six flash red and blue |
| 10 | Next level | Same as a tap on the pad |
| 11 | Free (hold) | Same as Free; what a hold on the pad picks |
The preset number is always the number of stars plus one.
The meter is already on your Wi-Fi #
Your phone needs to be on the same Wi-Fi as the meter.
With the WLED app (free, iPhone and Android): the meter runs WLED, open-source light software, so WLED's own app can drive it.
- Install WLED from the App Store or Google Play and open it.
- It looks for lights on your Wi-Fi. Your meter shows up as Busy Meter Doorway or Busy Meter Desk. If it doesn't, add it by its address (see below).
- Open the meter and go to its Presets. Tap a level by name.
With your phone's browser: type the meter's address into the address bar, for example http://192.168.1.42, and open its Presets. It's the same page the WLED app shows.
Where to find the meter's address: the app on your PC shows it on the meter's card in Settings › Meters, and your Wi-Fi router's device list shows it too.
No Wi-Fi: use the setup hotspot #
A meter that has no Wi-Fi saved, or can't reach its network, opens its own Wi-Fi hotspot after it starts. Your phone can join it and change levels directly, without any other network.
- Plug the meter into a USB charger and wait about a minute.
- On your phone, join the Wi-Fi network Busy Meter Setup. Password: busymeter
- A setup page may open by itself. To change levels, open a browser and go to http://4.3.2.1 instead, then open Presets.
- In the WLED app, add the meter by the address 4.3.2.1.
Your phone has no internet while it's on the hotspot. Switch back to your usual Wi-Fi when you're done.
The touch pad still works #
Tap, hold and double-tap work the same whichever way you set the level:
- Tap: next level (Free → Away → … → Do not disturb → Free).
- Hold: Free.
- Double-tap: Flash.
See The touch pad.
Good to know #
- You don't need the settings PIN. Shipped meters lock WLED's settings pages with a 4-digit PIN, but choosing a level is not a setting: presets and the WLED app's level controls work without it.
- Please only pick presets. WLED's colour, effect and brightness controls work too, but they change what the meter shows without a level. The next preset you pick (or the app) puts the Busy Meter look back.
- Anyone on the same Wi-Fi can do this. That's how WLED works. The app only drives meters you've claimed, so coworkers' apps won't take yours over by accident.
